In recent lectures, we have learned about a number of concepts in social psychology. According to the lecture, social psychology is about understanding people’s behavior in a social context.
In this blog, I would like to focus on the theory-Social Inference. Social inference refers to the way we process social information to form impressions of people and make judgments about them.
People must obtain sufficient information in order to make social judgments. In social situations, there are many ways access to information, such as people’s manners, social role, or relationship between group members. For example, a student can know a new classmate through his or her look, clothes, communication skills and so on.
However, people’s previous experience will affect his collection of information. For example, a student may know a friend from the same school as the new classmate, then he may have a previous impression from his friend. That means, his friend may be very nice, and he may think the new classmate is nice too.
Previous experience of people are likely to draw a wrong judgment. Because, first, the previous experience itself may be incorrect; second, people may not be aware of their previous experience, which may affect him unconsciously.
What’s more, people may make choices of collected information. This process may cause errors. First, people may judge the relationship between collected information based on previous experience. Second, people may not notice the errors in the information. The most important, people may tend to grab the most significant case information, ignoring the information from majority of people.
On the contrary, computer can avoid the problem of subjective, filter the entire data without previous experience, and draw the conclusion more accurate. So Computer Can Be More Suitable than People in Social Inference.
Well,computer is more suitable than others impression when you want to understand one.But sometimes the scene is also virtual showed in internet social media as people tend to show their better situation rather than ugly one.Thus,the best way to understand a new friend is to talk with him and work with him.It's only my point~
回复删除On one hand, previous experience may be incorrect or subjective; on the other hand, proper experience may help us judge people more accurately and efficiently. It may have positive effect in this aspect.
回复删除After reading your blog, I totally agree with the points you have made, especially when it comes to objectivity, computer can perform better than human without any doubt. Besides, these features that the computer has in social inference open the door for thousands opportunities. It is beneficial to us.
回复删除Great post, I agree what you have talked in this post, computer is faster, computers can run programs day and night, computer is more stable, though it is not very accurate now, but as long as we improve the algorithm, I think computer is going to be very good at doing this in the future, at the same time, computer algorithm will have the ability of learning and modeling in the future, I can not imagine, it is going to amaze us.
回复删除It makes me think a lot after reading your blog. Human being is so intelligent and creative. However, we have to admit that computer does better than us in some degree. Maybe one day, some jobs will be replaced by computer. Some area will be infected by computer, as the internet replaces the traditional industry.
回复删除You present a new aspect of the computer dealing with data more subjective.However,the subjective property can also bring bad results.As a human being,it is more emotional but they are more likely to feel the same way so that they can extract accurately of another one's sentiment.In the recent days,computers are used to detect new but favourite songs for the users according to their hearing manner.However,it is not as good as the songs recommended by people themselves.
